Anderson, SC – To celebrate 80 years in Anderson County, the United Way of Anderson County launched 80 Days of Impact on May 25th. The mission is to raise $80,000 in 80 days leading up to the organization’s 80th Anniversary Gala, on August 13th. The community has raised $50,000 so far with exactly a month left to hit the goal. The 80th Anniversary Gala will be held on August 13th at 6:30 pm at the Bleckley Station.
The money raised will go to help families who fall into the ALICE threshold. ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These are people who earn more than the Federal Poverty level, but not enough to make ends meet. In Anderson County, 40% of households fall into that category. ALICE individuals may work as a child’s daycare teacher, a restaurant server, or even a healthcare worker.
“For 80 years, the United Way of Anderson County has built a legacy by uniting people, impacting lives, and improving Anderson County. I am incredibly excited to honor the legacy of those who built this organization and focus on the future of the families who need us most today,” said President & CEO, Kevin Capell. “We want to bring our community together to raise critical support for ALICE families — hardworking households who are employed, yet still struggling to afford basic necessities like housing, childcare, and transportation.”
