You may know the “Rules of the Road,” but do you know the “Rules of the Water”? To help make your boating experiences fun as well as safe, come join us and learn the “Rules of the Water.” America’s Boating Club® – Golden Corner Lakes is offering free boating courses this year where you will learn about types of boats and their uses; state and local regulations; safety equipment; communications; how to handle emergencies; anchoring; trailering; navigation rules and aids; personal watercraft (jet ski) operation; knot tying; and much more. At the end of each course, there will be an exam. Completion of the course by a person born after July 1, 2007, who has been issued a South Carolina Boating Education Card from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will allow that person to operate a vessel powered by an engine of 10 hp or greater, a personal watercraft, or a specialty prop craft. There is no cost for the course other than $35 for a manual, which can be shared with family members.
The following are the classes being held in 2026:
Two separate three-session classes from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. each
night on Tuesdays: April 14, 21, and 28 or September 15, 22, and 29
at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 616 Quincy Rd., Seneca, SC,
in the Common Room.
For Keowee Key residents: One-day class on Saturday, May 16, from
8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Keowee Key, Lake View Room, Keowee Key
North Marina, 563 Tall Ship Drive, Salem, SC.
One-day class on Saturday, June 20, from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at
Foothills Area YMCA – Cottingham Campus, 370 Memorial Drive,
Seneca, SC.
A short exam will be held upon completion of a class. Graduates will receive their Boater Education Card from the DNR. Preregistration is requested by calling Ron Osburn at (864) 972-2434 or emailing Ron at ozbrn@bellsouth.net. Meeting particulars will be provided to pre registered students. For the one-day classes, arrangements can be made for you to pick up your class manual in advance.
